Just Tell Her To Stop: Stories of Families Surviving Eating Disorders

by Becky Henry

Letting Go With Love– Dar’s Story - Excerpt

Dar became so emotionally and physically drained that she found it very challenging to simply care for herself.  She is a mom who gracefully moves from overwhelm to calm acceptance.  Her story is that is of many parents caught in eating disorder's web.

Dead ends greeted her everywhere she looked for help.It scared her to hear how horrible these disorders were, and what she needed was hope and encouragement.  Most of her friends didn't really understand, so she found it most helpful talking with our group of parents on the telephone support group calls; she says it helped her keep her sanity.

Dar was painfully aware of the feelings of shame, guilt and failure that she felt. Her expectations tripped her up when she saw her child not succeeding, and somehow she felt it was her fault.  Or, Dar thought, maybe the other parents were just as tired and worn down as I was.
