Binge Eating Disorder Information
Binge Eating Disorder (BED)
is a newly characterized eating disorder that is common
in overweight and obese individuals.
There is usually a feeling of "loss of control" during
binge episodes, eating large amounts of food with 1,000's
of calories being consumed. The age of onset is unknown.
During most binges, at least three of the
above must be present for a diagnosis of BED. Binges
must also occur on the average
of at least two days a week for a six-month period.
Individuals with BED may not display common symptoms of
Anorexia
or Bulimia Nervosa; loss of menses or non-purging type
behavior (vomiting,
use of laxatives, etc.)
